Mission Statement:

Genesis Church is a Christ-centered learning community committed to Spirit-led service to lost and hurting people with God’s love.

Core Values:

Christ-Centered means that we keep the main thing–Jesus–the main thing! It means that we are accountable to Christ and live with integrity. We attempt to love with the sacrificial love of Christ. We believe that we need to empty ourselves of pride like Christ did. We live in a community and according to a worldview that is created by Christ and informed and guided by His presence. We encourage lives that are set apart for God and exemplify the servant leadership of Christ.

Learning Community means that we are committed to the classes that help us learn, because we don’t want to be stale. We want to change. The root meaning of “disciple” is life-long learner. We know that we don’t have it figured out so we believe that we should be open to the contribution of others and listen and learn from the community around us. It also means that we take the time to learn about the hearts of those around us. Being a learning community is a continuous process–we will always be adapting. We value a Hebrew approach to acting our way into a new way of thinking, rather than traditional approaches to learning that change thinking but not necessarily practices.  Diversity is also something we desire for our community. We want diversity amongst ourselves as well as in our ministries.

Spirit-led means that we take time to pray so that we can hear what God’s Spirit is saying to us and then we submit to what He is telling us to do. We value worship, because we believe that God draws us and others into His presence and it provides us with a time to give God thanks for who He is and what He’s done. Following the Spirit’s leadership is the way that we find our purpose, it’s how we discern the truth, and it’s the pathway to the miraculous. We don’t believe in forcing the Spirit to do what we want–we just want His passionate fire in our hearts!

Service to lost and hurting people means that we want live selflessly and reach out to people as the Spirit leads. This means that we will definitely be out of our comfort zones. It will take our commitment. We must be committed to find and listen to those in need.  The heart of God (missio dei) is expressed through his body of Christ here on earth in sacrificial service to those who cannot help themselves.  Compassionate ministry without the truth of the exclusivity of Christ and a person’s need for Him is not true compassion - for without relationship a relationship with Jesus, genuine transformation and restoration of human personhood cannot happen.

God’s love, again expressed through missio dei, is the motive behind everything that we do. God’s love causes us to love one another unconditionally and treat one another with grace. We believe in speaking God’s truth with His love without being judgmental. We also believe that action is important as we show God’s love to all we meet.
